Velmie, a digital banking system integrator and delivery partner for regulated fintech programs, announced its role as delivery partner for Preferta, a mobile-first neobank launching in Africa.
Preferta is a mobile-first neobank planned for Angola, Mozambique, and Mauritius. Once live, users will be able to fund a wallet, send money, pay for everyday needs like airtime, and hold balances in multiple currencies.
“We were looking for a partner who could take responsibility for more than just the banking core,” - said Alex Lacis, CEO of Preferta. “Payments, compliance integrations and the application itself all need to work together, so we needed a team with real delivery experience and the technical depth to support it. Velmie had both, which means this critical scope now sits with one team rather than being split across several vendors.”
Velmie is responsible for building the technology underneath that experience. The core banking engine behind Preferta will run on Velmie's white-label platform, connected to mobile money and foreign exchange providers and to KYC, AML, and anti-fraud screening, alongside the back office Preferta's team will use to run the business day-to-day and the mobile app itself. Velmie will stay on after launch to operate, maintain, and evolve the platform in production.
For a program spanning three jurisdictions, that single-team structure was central to how the engagement was scoped. Rather than coordinating separate vendors for banking infrastructure, payment connectivity, compliance integrations, and the app layer, Preferta works with one delivery team accountable for all of it, including what happens after go-live.
Preferta becomes the latest fintech and payment program in Velmie's pipeline of work across Africa, extending its track record as a long-term operating partner. Work on Preferta is just getting underway, with Velmie supporting delivery through launch and into ongoing production support.
